Anita Hanch-Hansen poses for Norway Designs NÅ Vol. 5 IDENTITY with her sculptural "Changes". "Changes" is a series of ceramic works in which Hanch-Hansen has used driftwood found along the beach at Fuglevik in Rygge municipality. The objects are added with organic traces and modeled into open and closed forms that can be associated with vases, before they are glazed and fired at a high temperature.
Hanch-Hansen works with clay and is concerned with the material's history and frames of reference. In her works, she investigates cyclical change processes associated with growth, transformation and decay. The objects are modeled in clay and combined with various natural materials found in the local environment, such as sand from the sea or plants from the garden. In this way, the objects gain belonging to the area and develop a relational identity on the basis of the added materials, both together in a series and standing alone. The work process is linked to the theme and the objects are located in the borderland between the recognizable and the indefinable.
