Jomi Ever's earliest memory of creating something is when he knocked small metal cars flat in kindergarten. For Norway Designs NÅ Vol. 5 IDENTITY, he provides dishes that reflect the trees' annual rings and is more interested in the various processing methods and techniques than the material itself.

What kind of work do you create?
I work with both crafts and product design.

What is your earliest memory related to art, or to creating something?
Knocking little metal cars flat in kindergarten, it was a kind of destructive force. We built a nice collection of flat cars.

What did you want to be as a child?
Youth

Did you grow up in a creative environment ?
Not in childhood, but later yes.

When in your life did you first learn about your field of work? What brought you there?
An evening with spelled dough when I was around 20 years old, that was the starting point.

What is the best advice you have ever received ?
Just do it!

What does success mean to you?
That I thrive, develop and get better at what I do.

What is your relationship with your material?
I work with several materials, and it is the various processing methods and techniques that interest me the most, often they are more important than the material itself.

Tell us a little about your workplace!
I moved into a new premises this summer, it is a small but nice prototype workshop in square footage. Everything is not in place yet, but it will be my zen place and a place where I can experiment and work on different projects.

Which object is your favorite among all that you have made?
The Elements series is probably my favourite.

What is the most challenging thing about being your own boss?
Having to think about work 24/7.

Do you have any tricks or techniques that never fail if you need inspiration or to get out of routines?
Jogging clears the brain.

What is your relationship with Norway Designs?
An important player who promotes Norwegian design and handicrafts.

What expectations do you have for Norway Designs NÅ Vol. 5?
I am looking forward to exhibiting, it is always exciting to see the whole when there are several exhibitors.

Tell us a little about the items you are including in this year's exhibition.
It is a small series of barrels in black concrete. I have started with time as a theme and used annual rings as a reference.

Which identity do material and technique help to express?
There is something fragile about the black concrete at the same time as it is also durable and heavy, it has a kind of fossil-like appearance.

Is there one or more identities that are reflected through your work?
I would say that.

Read more about the process behind the barrels here.
