Sammu is a candle extinguisher in cast brass designed by the Finnish-American designer couple Mika and Julie Tolvanen.
The Finnish word for candle extinguisher is "Kynttilänsammutin". The derivation 'Sammu' is short for having extinguished a fire or having extinguished a lamp.
The form of Sammu is reminiscent of a fruit, but not a fruit of this world. Sammu is a beautiful table sculpture, where the delicately designed stem at the top makes a gentle upward gesture at the tip, telling your fingers how to use it.
Over time, the brass will acquire a patina. You can either polish the surface or let it age naturally. Made in Norway.

Nedre Foss was started by the design duo Anderssen & Voll in 2009. The core of Nedre Foss' design is the term "Century Product" and what they refer to as utility sculpture. By this is meant objects that will serve you for at least 100 years, and where the sculptural properties on the one hand and the aspect of use on the other are equal parts of the function. It may not need to be mentioned that quality and longevity also play a large role in product development for Nedre Foss.
