Tone Bjerknes Gulbrandsen is a ceramist with a background as a teacher in arts and crafts, and holds a master's degree specializing in ceramics. She works from her small workshop at home in Grefsen, where she has equipped the basement and laundry room for pottery production.
After starting with Norwegian blue clay, she took a break from the subject before returning to work – this time with porcelain. She fell in love with the fine qualities of the material and today works mainly with Audrey Blackman porcelain, which lends itself well to thin, turned forms.
Tone is particularly interested in turning and has a penchant for details like handles, where small differences can make a big visual and functional difference. She works mostly with colored glazes, but also with transparent glazes and decals. Although glazing is a practical necessity, she finds great joy in sorting the finished, colorful cups.
Her ceramics are characterized by small, user-friendly objects such as cups, bowls and jugs – where the lightness and translucency of porcelain come into its own.
