Boat Recycled Walnut/Plexiglass
Is it a boat? Or a bowl? Or maybe something else entirely? No matter what the eye sees, light lets through and makes the shape airy and light. The object is made of recycled walnut, taken from a discarded staircase Thomas Jøranson found on Bygdøy in Oslo. The combination of wood and plexiglass opens up new expressions and gives the object a unique, poetic feel.
Thomas Jøranson creates objects in wood, mainly oak, but also with elements of teak, acacia, pau lau and other darker woods. He is keen to experiment and likes to explore alternative ways of using machines and tools. At the same time, a deep understanding of the structure and properties of wood is central, as a prerequisite for the objects to function as they are intended. The works have their focus on functional objects, but also move in the direction of the sculptural.
