Kosta Boda is one of the world's leading brands in glassblowing and glass art. Their ovens and glass huts in Småland have been in use since 1742, and today several well-known designers work in studios around Kosta. The glassworks was named after the founders' surnames, generals Koskull and Staël von Holstein. Kosta was placed in the middle of Småland's dense forests to supply both Stockholm and Karlskrona with glass. Important roads crossed here, and there was unlimited access to the wood needed to fire up the stoves. Kosta Boda's glass is brightly colored, bold, subtle and provocative. In close collaboration with skilled craftsmen, they explore and challenge traditional techniques and constantly develop new ones when designs and ideas are to be realised.
