Fire dog
Idhund from Korbo made of cast iron and designed by the duo Broberg & Ridderståle
With a fire dog, the wood rises from the surface, which provides better draft and ensures that the fire burns longer and more evenly. In addition, a fire dog will reduce contact with the surface, so it does not easily leave marks in the fireplace.
The parts are cast by hand in sand molds - using traditional craft techniques. The sand molds are made anew for each casting, which means that the parts may vary slightly in shape.
Broberg & Ridderståle works with both architecture and design. They are inspired by everyday life, are based in Stockholm and have received several awards for their work.
Korbo has been making steel wicker baskets since 2006, inspired by baskets traditionally used by fishermen. Each basket is woven by hand, and the baskets are an investment that is impossible to wear out. In 2025, Korbo entered into a collaboration with Broberg & Ridderståle to make fireplace sets. Here, ancient craft techniques are also used, and the result is both beautiful, timeless and solid.
