No other Norwegian stadium has more history between its walls.
Here, King Olav V gave a speech during the peace days in the summer of 1945. Here, Hjalmar Andersen skated his way into the history books with three Olympic gold medals during the 1952 Winter Games. Here, 32,000 spectators watched Dynamo Moscow beat Skeid 7-0 on a snow-covered turf during a training match in 1947. And last but not least; this is where the world's largest Pavlova was baked in 2018.
The Bislett area in Oslo is known for the characteristic buildings in functionalist and neoclassical style that surround the traditional sports facility. For many, Bislett is perhaps even more famous for the country's most talked-about kebab shop. However, Bislett is more than architecture, sports and kebab. For example, it was here that the country's first Chinese restaurant opened in 1963, and supposedly by Norway's very first Chinese. The legendary kiosk Rilum (straight in your pocket without VAT) was also located in the middle of Bislett. Throughout history, nearly 70 world records have been set at Bislett Stadium, including the world's largest cake being baked here earlier in 2018. This was a Pavlova that measured 88.6 square meters, which, interestingly enough, was also the average size of a Norwegian home in 1973.
