Skave Oak Storage Box
Skave is a wooden storage box featuring architectural details, designed by the Bergen-based design trio Ytre.
The designers drew inspiration from traditional building techniques in Western Norway. They found beauty in the simplicity of architecture characterised by repetitive elements, designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and the damp climate of the region. These architectural traditions have been reinterpreted in Skave, highlighting the repeating patterns in its design.
Ytre has created a storage box that is both functional and beautiful to look at every day. A decorative object in its own right, Skave combines traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary expression, preserving both cultural heritage and artisanal skills.
Skave is handcrafted by Kvass in Dovre, Norway. The design won the Fram Oslo x Håndverk design competition in autumn 2021. Ytre consists of Taran Neckelmann, Ayla Gürsoy and Njål Hatteberg.
Skave was also showcased at the ICFF design fair in New York City in May and received an award in the student category at the NYCxDESIGN Awards 2022. The award recognises outstanding design, with winners selected by a jury of leading figures from the design industry.
Fram Oslo was established in 2016 and is a Norwegian furniture and interior design brand inspired by Norway's design heritage. In collaboration with talented Norwegian designers, the company aims to celebrate Norwegian nature and a functional way of life through pure, locally sourced materials.
