Filipine Small Oak Dish
Filipine encourages us to cherish old traditions and makes a thoughtful gift for yourself or someone special. Inspired by the shape of nuts, the oak dishes are hand-finished with naturally pigmented hardwax oil, highlighting the beautiful grain of the wood. Each dish is produced in Drammen and Oslo, Norway.
Oslo Aula and Norway Designs
Norway Designs invited Norwegian design studio Oslo Aula to create a new Christmas product inspired by Norwegian traditions. The result is Filipine, a beautiful collection of oak dishes inspired by one of Norway's oldest Christmas customs – eating nuts.
The name Filipine comes from a traditional Norwegian game of the same name, which has been part of Christmas celebrations since the early 19th century. The game begins when two people find a pair of nuts inside the same shell. Each person eats one nut, and the next time they meet, they compete to be the first to say "Filipine". Whoever remembers to say it first wins and is entitled to a small prize from the other person.
Oslo Aula is an anthropological design studio that creates visual concepts across a wide range of disciplines, including branding, set design, interior architecture and product development. At the heart of their work is an anthropological approach to design, drawing on the study of people and cultures.
Oslo Aula's main ambition is to explore and understand how we shape, and are shaped by, our surroundings – the homes we live in, the objects we surround ourselves with and the art we appreciate.
By focusing on the relationships between people, spaces and objects, Oslo Aula approaches each project from both the creator's and the user's perspective. This thoughtful approach allows them to develop more meaningful, purposeful and sustainable design solutions.
